Food for Geeks...I Give You...the "Poutine"
Pronounced poo-tin, this is indigenous to where I grew up in New Brunswich, Canada. In all my travels around the world I have shared this snack, or meal, with friends and they all have fallen in love with it. Here is how you can easily make it at home. The Wikipedia Link for History
Ingrediants:
1 large bag of frozen french fries (not the steak frie type)
1 med sized block of mozzarella (finely shredded)
3 packets of turkey gravey or 3 cups worth
Simply cook the fries following the directions on the bag then make the gravey making sure its steaming hot when the fries are done. Place your fries on the plate, go to www.webbyawards.com and vote for Vox in Social Networking, spread your cheese on top of the fries, then apply your gravey. The hot gravey melts the cheese into the fries and is the best comfort food you will ever eat. This is a once a week meal for me. Hope you enjoy it.

Over hear *Québec*, we add brown gravy and curd cheese.
In fact, your picture, the cheese is curd not mozzarella.
Anywho, to each their own!
*and I now have this craving for Poutine *sigh* *
I'm not too keen on turkey gravy so, it would of never crossed my mind to try it.
When I used to live in the states, we used to order our cheese curds from
Rock Cheese . The 5 lbs is a bit pricey but well worth it. It also freezes very easily and doesn't really loses it's taste once thawed. It is so delicious that I found my eldest * he was 4 back then* underneath my computer desk eating the whole pound of cheese. It really does squeak also ;-)
McDonald's used to make an excellent Poutine, but, they've changed their fries and isn't quite as good as before. I've never really been outside the Province of Québec while traveling in Canada, so, I wouldn't know how the other Province's are with their Poutine.
When I have had it, I live in B.C., it has been at Hockey games and A&W. Dunno why there but I guess 'cause that's where you'll most likely find me indulging. I have no idea what kind of cheese they use but the gravy always seems to be a variation on some poultry. In fact, the first time I had it, not knowing what it was, I thought it had chicken or turkey in it. Poutine was just too close to poultry to not have it in it, from my very near-sighted point of view. The only thing I know about the cheese is it's gooey and appears to be chunked. Also it's white.
There you have y definition of Poutine, Gooey, white cheese on fries with Turkey gravy.
All this talk of poutine and chicken as made me want a Chicken poutine.
So, in a little bit, I shall go order a chicken poutine from St-Hubert B.B.Q.
Jealous? you should be! *evil laugh*
hmmm *charges the batteries* =P
you are evil........what I need now as an old preist and a young priest........."The Power of Christ compels you!"

I even left it on the full view to make it that more tantalizing.
Now I am officially evil XD
not sure about the cheese being curd, but the way you first describe it, with mozzarela.....yes, yes and yes...
I had fries with melted cheese and fries swimming in gravy before, but never the two combined...! I will take it into account for my next treat, I'm afraid mine can't even be once a month, but you are still youing to worry about cholesterol...enjoy!!!! :)
